The Victory Road 4-24-22

Happy Sunday evening here from The Victory Road. Here's hoping you stuffed yourself with Stufful yesterday during Community Day. (400 candies?! WTF is that???) Someone should have told me to Bewear how much time I'd need to evolve one.

Okay, bad puns are done. Let's get to the news:

The Pokémon Company goes to print

Last week, the Pokémon Company reached an agreement to buy Millennium Print Group, the printer of the Pokémon Trading Card Game cards. It's unclear why this acquisition happened now, but the Pokémon Company said it will "further develop Millennium Print Group’s capabilities, infrastructure, and scale to become a premier printer of trading cards, serving the broader industry."

My take is the Pokémon Company is hedging against another nasty split ala Wizards of the Coast. Given how much even modern cards are selling for right now, they're literally printing money. Plus all the promises to ramp up production in an effort to combat scalpers. Even though the Pokémon Company will soon own Millennium Print Group, the printer will reportedly operate independent and autonomously.

Pokémon Go and chill?

A new study by the London School of Economics and Political Science claims that playing Pokémon go "may alleviate non-clinical forms of mild depression for those playing the game." The reason for this is because the game supposedly encourages physical activity and face-to-face interactions.

I don't know when this study took place but I haven't left my couch for a raid in over two years, how bout you?

Still, it does take me back to the golden days of 2016 when we were all cruising the streets and the parks looking to catch that elusive Lapras and throwing down at gyms. Time will tell if the game ever gets that pre-pandemic social feel again.

Operation Giving Turtwig

...an extra twig every day until home compatibility is announced is on Day 56. Things are getting out of hand.
