A Pokémon Presents recap roundup

Breaking down the non-DLC news

Two Cooltrainer Ace emails in the same week. A delightful treat—just like the first time you tried to grab that item ball in Celadon and realized it was actually an Eevee inside, amirite?

In case you missed it, we covered everything from Pokémon Presents related to the Hidden Treasures of Area Zero in a special email on Tuesday. Check it out.

And now, here’s the rest of the news!

This week’s rundown (estimated read time, 4 minutes):

  • Froakie Community Day, this Sunday (August 13)

  • Paldea Pokémon are coming to GO

  • New deets about Detective Pikachu Returns

  • Two new Pokémon miniseries are on the way

  • More classic Pokemon games arrive on Nintendo Switch Online

Freaking out for Froakie Community Day

Everyone’s favorite frog (don’t @ me, Politoed is a toad) is coming to a Community Day near you this Sunday, August 13 running from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. local time.

Here’s everything you need to know about the event:

  • Evolve Frogadier (Froakie’s Evolution) during the event or up to 5 hours afterward to get a Greninja that knows the Charged Attack Hydro Cannon.

  • Starting with the event and continuing afterwards, Greninja can learn the Fast Attack Water Shuriken.

  • 3x Stardust for catching Pokémon.

  • 2x Candy for catching Pokémon.

  • 2x chance for Trainers level 31 and up to receive Candy XL from catching Pokémon.

  • Lure Modules activated during the event last for 3 hours.

  • Incense (excluding Daily Adventure Incense) activated during the event last for 3 hours.

  • Take a few snapshots during Community Day for a surprise!

  • One additional Special Trade can be made for a maximum of 3 for the day (active from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. local time).

  • Trades require 50% less Stardust (active from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. local time).

Paldea Pokémon arrive in GO

That’s right, Sprigatito, Fuecoco, Quaxly, and the gang are coming (or are the GO-ing?) to Pokémon GO, sometime in September. As with previous Gen releases, we probably won’t get everyone all at once. At this time, there is no list of which Pokemon will arrive at launch or when in September that may be. Expect an accompanying event and Research when they launch.

Stay tuned for more info, cooltrainers.

Detective Pikachu: back at it again

Crack out the coffee—everyone’s favorite yellow caffeine addict is on the case! Detective Pikachu Returns launches on Friday, October 6 (preorder available now). Here’s the latest trailer shown during Presents.

Imma level with you: I don’t know enough about this franchise to give much comment. It seems like more of what everyone loved about the original, with lots of new Pokémon in the mix. Looks like Tim’s dad is still missing and Mewtwo still has something to do with it, judging by his folded arms and ominous floating up there above the skyline.

Popcorn Alert: 2 new animated series are coming

If you loved Hisuian Snow, you’re in luck (and if you haven’t watched it yet, get going). Another animated web series, Pokémon: Paldean Winds arrives September 6, free on the official Pokémon YouTube channel. This story “brings the Paldea region to life in an all-new way.” And “follows three academy students—Ohara, Aliquis, and Hohma—on their journey of growth and learning while attending school. “

As you can guess, each one of the students has one of the Paldean first partner Pokémon. Based on their clothing, they’re from Naranja Academy and look to be different grades (one has Meowscarada). The animation in the trailer is gorgeous. Don’t miss it.

If that weren’t enough, a second animated miniseries, Pokémon: Path to the Peak, was also announced on Tuesday’s Presents. The first episode premieres during a special screening at the 2023 World Championships on August 11, following by a release to on Pokémon’s YouTube the same day.

Path to the Peak, follows a Pokémon TCG player, Ava, and her partner Pokémon, Oddish, on their journey to rise to the top in the world of competitive Pokémon Trading Card Game play. She’s just moved to a new school and learns there is a TCG club there. This is a cool mix of TCG and animations of the actual Pokémon fighting. I couldn’t find the trailer by itself, but here’s the link to the timestamp it’s at in Presents.

Stadium 2 and Gameboy’s TCG come to Nintendo Switch Online

Available now, you can relive more of the glory days (or take a time machine back for your first experience) with Pokémon Stadium 2 and Pokémon Trading Card Game. If you have Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, that is.

Just like with the original Stadium, trainers can’t use the Transfer Pak functionality to import their own Pokémon into Stadium 2, meaning you’re stuck using the premade teams.

Ah yes, the graphics of my youth

For the Youngsters out there, in Pokémon Trading Card Game, you travel throughout the land, battling opponents, collecting booster packs, and attempting to assemble the ultimate deck in your search for rare and powerful “Legendary Pokémon cards.”

It was a trendy spinoff back in the day and a great introduction to the TCG, if you can stand the slow scrolling speeds.

Card of the Week

Competitors at this year’s World Championships will receive the special Paradise Resort promo card. Gotta get my hands on one—always wanted to retreat my Psyduck for less energy.
