Pokémon GO is all-growed up
Plus a jumbo-sized TCG trainer
Happy Sunday morning from The Victory Road. I'm back from our Fourth of July hiatus with all the latest Pokémon goodies straight to your inbox. I scour the tall grass of the world wide web so you don't have to!
Pokémon GO is a first-grader
Hard to believe, but it's been six years last week since Pokémon GO changed our lives forever and brought about world peace for the space of a few weeks. They grow up so fast.
To celebrate, there's currently an Anniversary Event going on now through Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at 8:00 p.m. local time. Get the full list of increased encounters, raid appearances and shiny potentials here on the official website.
Plus, until 11:5p p.m. local time tonight (Sunday, July 10), Ultra Unlock: Battle Weekend is underway! The biggest news is that any first partner (starter) Pokemon evolved during this event will know the Charged Attacks featured in past events. For grass starters, this is Frenzy Plant, fire starters get Blast Burn and water starters learn Hydro Cannon. Charmander also learns the Dragon Breath Fast Attack, too.

The dude who shook the North American International Championships
Check out this mad lad. Matthew Verive hit minor Pokémon TCG fame when he showed up to throw down using a jumbo-sized competitive deck. These jumbo cards are often released as promo collectibles with new sets.
Problem was, nobody had ever made a whole deck of ginormous cards before, and the judges weren't sure how to handle it. According to Matthew, he lost is first game then his opponent threw the second game just to force a game three. (Because who wouldn't want to give the jumbo deck guy his moment in the sun?)
After that, the judges swooped in for a deck check to make sure the cards were legal. While there weren't any rules that said the jumbo cards can't be used, this will likely be changed. The reason? Jumbo cards aren't uniform in size, meaning they're considered "marked" because you may be able to pick up which cards are which in the deck.
Still, let's give a round of applause to this rebel with a jumbo cause. (Oh snap, that rhymes).
