The Pokémon Company to Nuzlockers: you do you
Plus, Kadabra on the comeback & Oct. Community Day deets
I just survived three years days of Fan X in Salt Lake City. Hats off to some killer Pokémon cosplayers, including a Jesse who probably has back problems from wearing a true-to-size wig around all day. #dedicated
The Pokémon Company to Nuzlockers: you do you
Okay, so not quite but almost. After the stir caused by former Nintendo PR managers Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang last week, (they claimed The Pokémon Company erased creators from the Creator Program for playing the game by Nuzlocke rules), TPC had the following to say:
"The Pokémon Company International does not have any issues with fans or creators playing the video games with Nuzlocke rules."
So to sum up the two week "drama", basically, former Nintendo employees who now run their own podcast made a vague claim that went viral and got them lots of attention for something that wasn't technically true or false.
On to REAL news
Kadabra on the comeback?
Fun fact: it's been almost 20 years since the last Kadabra card was released in the Pokémon TCG.
The reason why is the real-life magician that somewhat "inspired" Kabadra. Uri Geller is an illusionist that also uses a spoon-bending trick in his act. That alone doesn't seem like a big deal except the Japanese name for Kadabra is Yungerer, which sorta sounds like Uri's name, too.
Either way, these similar coincidences resulted in legal action. Kadabra continued on the video games but was not printed in ensuing TCG expansions.
The story took another twist in 2020, when Geller issued a letter to the chairman of Nintendo with permission to bring back the Kadabra card. Ishihara apparently responded but that was that... until the past few weeks.
In correspondence with PokeBeach, Geller mentioned he was in touch with the Pokémon Company and "has a feeling" a new Kadabra card is on the way "perhaps as early as December." Hats off to Geller for coming around after receiving what sounds like years of mail from Pokémon fans.
Don't get your hopes up just yet, but we could have a Kadabra Christmas Miracle in the works!
