Pokémon Sleep arrives with a zzz
Plus, GO turns 7 and Delphox Tera Raids begin
Happy July, Cooltrainers! As Lietenant Surge, the Lightning American once said, there’s nothing more patriotic than a good ole fashioned Thunder attack, so let’s bring the⚡️with this week’s news
Here’s this week’s rundown:
Night-night: Pokémon Sleep preregistration opens
Pokémon GO turns 7 🎂 & intros a new feature
Delphox hits the Tera Raid circuit
Catch ‘em all… all the zzzs that is
The long-awaited (probably, for someone) release of Pokémon Sleep is just around the corner. But if you just can’t wait to catch all the sleeps, preregistration is open now.
As a refreshers, Pokémon Sleep is “the sleep tracker app that turns sleep into entertainment.” Despair Apple users: it’s only available via Google Play for Android mobile devices.
I won’t go into all of the details, but here’s a quick overview:
“Players” aka people trying to get some shuteye, place their smartphone or Pokémon GO Plus + by their pillow and (eventually after much angst about their current unsuccessful shiny hunt) go to sleep. The more sleep they get (called Drowsy Power), the bigger the Snorlax in-app becomes, and the more Pokémon they meet. Players an also raise Snorlax during the day by gathering berries.
If you purchase the Pokémon Go Plus + (yes, two plusses), you’ll get a nightcap-wearing Pikachu as part of your Sleep team.
Pokémon GO is 7 and celebrating
For some players, an invite to GO’s celebration might feel like when the parents of the mean kid at school made him invite you to his birthday party. But setting aside the recent issues with remote raiding and last week’s accidental upgrade that got axed, here’s what’s planned now through July 12, 8 p.m. local time.
July 6: 2× XP for catching Pokémon
July 7: 2× Stardust for catching Pokémon
July 8: 2× Candy for catching Pokémon
July 9: Community Day Classic, feat. Squirtle (2-5 p.m. local time)
1/2 Egg Hatch Distance for Eggs placed in an Incubator on this dayJuly 10: Friendship levels will increase twice as fast
July 11: 2× Candy for transferring Pokémon
July 12: 2× XP for evolving Pokémon
And if you’re trying to evolve or improve your collection of starters, don’t miss these “Super Pokémon Encounters.” Five-star raids feature Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres.
July 6: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle wearing a party hat
July 7: Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile
July 8: Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip
July 9: Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup
July 10: Snivy, Tepig, and Oshawott
July 11: Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie
July 12: Rowlet, Litten, and Popplio
There are also a pair of Stellar (paid) research events, including one for shiny Mew. Check out the full list of raids and research here.
Pokémon Showcases
Ever wanted to show off that XXL Oddish or your XXS Persian? You’re in luck! New to GO this week, Pokémon Showcases is a new type of competition to compete against other trainers’ prize Pokémon at PokéStops.
This first showcase features Squirtle and trainers can drop theirs off to see who is the biggest (why is it always a size competition?). Icons appears above certain Stops if a Showcase is available there. They only run for a short time and trainers get rewards based on how well their Pokémon ranked (including a first place medal for the biggest bois).
Fairy Delphox arrives in Scarlet/Violet Tera Raids
After being rumored for several weeks, the Fairy Tera-Type Delphox with the Mightiest Mark is officially here today (Thursday, July 6) at 5:00 p.m. to Sunday, July 9, at 4:59 p.m. PDT, then again from Thursday, July 13, at 5:00 p.m. to Sunday, July 16, at 4:59 p.m. PDT.
This is a tough one to counter with Delphox’s Fire/Psychic typing covering well for its Fairy Tera-type. Do you have any strategies in mind? Reply and lmk and we’ll feature them in next week’s email.
